You are an expect on yourself. No body knows you better. You know what happened on your first holiday, perhaps on your first day of school. Every now and them I add to my own timeline. This is a personal record of years , months in your life when something happened. It is something I do with my clients and encourage them to create.
It is a document which allows them to remember what happened to them during a period of time. Some clients chart there good / happy memories above the timeline, while the not so good appear below the line. Having a timeline is good for many reasons. One, it enables you to see what has happened during your lifetime.
It can be a cathartic exercise. It can alo show you have far you have come. Some people like to loom towards the future and chat what they want to happen. Another reason os if you think the client might need future counselling they can given the timeline yo their new therapist so they do not need to relive the experiences and give them the timeline. What would your timeline look like?
